Acupuncture in Lincoln Square, Chicago

Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses needles to stimulate certain points along the meridians of the body. Stimulation of these points allows the body to start the process of healing itself, and can have many incredible effects on the body. These include improved blood flow, decreased healing time, increased endorphin production, decreased inflammation, increased energy and mood, and many more.

What to Expect

We recommend you wear comfortable clothing to your acupuncture session.

You will be given a thorough consultation and exam. One of the ways our practice is different from others that offer acupuncture is that we take a holistic approach to our consultation and exam, and ensure that we understand each patient’s health concerns.

Once the health concerns have been identified, Dr. Rae will choose acupuncture points that are beneficial for you. Next, we’ll ask you to lie on a soft, heated bed, and then the slender needles will gently be inserted. Once inserted, they remain in place for 20 minutes. At this time, the needles will be removed.

FAQ

I’m nervous about the needles. Does getting acupuncture hurt?

It’s important to know that the needles used are nothing like a hypodermic needle used in a hospital. Acupuncture needles are small and ultrathin. The doctor will show you the needles before your session and insert one needle in a generally pain-free area to demonstrate what you can expect. We can stop at any time, and your doctor will ask you if you’re okay with them proceeding with each needle.

Is there an additional fee for the service? Is it included in the visit fee and does insurance cover it?

It depends on what is booked. If you book the new patient special, it includes acupuncture or an adjustment, and there would be an additional fee if both are performed. Acupuncture is covered by some BCBS PPO plans in our office.

Do I have to be a chiropractic patient to receive acupuncture?

No, we offer acupuncture either as a solo service or as a combination with other services like chiropractic.
