|We love one-ingredient foods. REAL food that has been around for thousands of years. Sure, we love our junk foods as much as the next person, but there is something that I would like to clear up today. |
LABELS. Labels are what food companies use to get you into thinking something is healthy, when it's really not. Some examples are...Fat Free, Sugar Free, Gluten Free, Diet, Made With Real Ingredients, and so many others... The problem is that these can be incredibly misleading. For example, just because Swedish Fish are "Fat Free" doesn't mean they are healthy. Another example is labels in Pop Tart been "Gluten Free", doesn't mean it's all of a sudden a healthy breakfast. The reasons these labels are there are simply for marketing purposes. I mean, did you know that the sales of "Gluten Free" products has grown by 34% annually for the last 5 years. This is why SO many foods now are labeled Gluten Free, even though the majority of these foods never had gluten in them to begin with.
The general rule of thumb when it comes to nutrition is Focus on ONE ingredient foods. These are foods that have been around forever, like Chicken, beef, fish, vegetables, fruits, potatoes, avocados, nuts, seeds and others. These are the foods that don't need labels. We don't have to be perfect, but my point is to focus on eating one-ingredient foods the MAJORITY of the time.
